“Great rooms, good service and amazing views”

I did one night on the Paradise Luxury and found the room to be great, staff friendly and ha long just amazing. Here are a few dings, we had a new manager on the boat and he didn’t really run a ‘tight ship’…everything seemed to take place 30 minutes after he had told us i.e. 7pm dinner was served at 7:30/45, tours were equally delayed. Perhaps he just hadn’t memorized the actual time table. With that said, who am I to complain about spending another few minutes staring at the amazing vista that is Ha Long Bay. Some people reserved outdoor seating for dinner in advance and I would recommend you do the same. Drinks were reasonably priced but wine list was lacking so bring your own.

“Amazing way to see Halong Bay..in luxury!”

Halong Bay has been recently booming with new companies vying for the sailing industry in Halong Bay. However, it is the owner of the Paradise Cruises that OWNS the island where all the others must dock. The turnaround is an example of amazing efficiency.MAKE SURE YOU DO THE 3 day/2 night experience to really get everthing!!!

You start when getting to Halong City island. There is a bar area where they greet you while you wait to board with a welcome drink. They take and tag your bags to your room aboard one of four boats of the Paradise cruise line. (There can be a mix-up as there was on our trip, but was quickly corrected as all the boats are not that far from each other).

You board and there is a welcome lunch. My companion has many food restrictions, and they were so accomodating during this trip by asking after the buffet lunch about any food preferences. This was carried through the entire trip (and even more when we were on a day excursion on one of the other boats where we were served fresh seafood of the day…my companion doesn’t like seafood, so they immediately whipped up another 3 dishes for him!)

If you can afford it, I would highly recommend the front suites with private balcony (I think 208 and 209). The balcony isn’t completely private, but is at least some outdoor space for yourself. The rooms are a good size for a boat, and the bathrooms are very nice. You definitely don’t feel like you’re on a cruise in this room.

Every meal was great. Breakfast was served each morning as a buffet, with pho or omelets made to order. Lunches were out during the excursions. And dinners had a set menu for each night – sooo much food that you couldn’t even imagine finishing it all, so pace yourself!

So the daily schedule was as such: They would take you on some excursion depending on if you were a 1 night or 2 night guest. While you were away, the boat goes back to dock, and the 1 night guests got off, while another group of guests got on. The new guests then went on the same excursion you went the afternoon before, and you all met each other at dinner (when you got back from your other boat’s excursion). Then when you got off the next night, the same thing happened for another set of guests. I asked the staff how often they had to work, and they said they would do this for a week at a time, and get about 3 days off/month, which increased the more years they worked there. No wonder the owner is rich!!!

The whole trip was a little pricey, but for what we had (luxury room, all amazing meals taken care of, excursions), it was completely worth it. Halong Bay is BEAUTIFUL, and the whole trip is quite romantic for all those who was a unique getaway.

“Relaxing trip with lots to see and very good food”

As we were on a private tour I cannot comment on the way to and from Hanoi but from the moment we arrived at the harbour we liked the experience very much. There is a welcome building with some snack options and some drinks waiting for you in case you are hungry from the drive. You will get a necklace and the colour (as well as the sign) will tell you which ship you are on.

On the ship we received a welcome juice and the manager told us about our plan for the coming 24h. There are lots of things to do from a Cooking lesson on board to Tai Chi in the morning and the varios excursions. After that we did have some time before lunch to refresh in our cabin.

Accomodation: We had one of the suites with private balcony which is very large for such a small ship with a very nice bathroom. All perfectly clean and very well kept with all needed amenities on board. The bed was large and the balcony pretty nice. There are but two thing to keep in mind: One is that directly above your head is a communal area so you might hear people into the night and the second is that due to this your balcony is not private i.e. other people can look down on it.

Meals: The lunch was buffet style with some nice options but nothing too special. The cooking lessen on the upper deck was great and for the dinner they tried a barbeque which lacked a bit under bad timing and inexperience of the staff but all in all we had a very nice dinner. Breakfast was buffet with eggs and pho made to order. All in all a nice experience but not too special. The winelist was ok, but drinks were more on the expensive side.

    Staff:
Very friendly and helpful throughout the whole journey with lots of smile. We had good fun and enjoyed their hospitality pretty much.

    Excursions:

We had three, one to the surprise cave, one to a small gazebo on top of one island and one to a seculded bay with monkeys. What happens is that the Halong bay is overcrowded so not much privacy or quietness but all three tours were very informative and full of good sights. The surpise cave in a very great cave very well kept (stairs) the gazebo (more stairs) offers a very nice view and we liked the monkeys.

All in all: Yes it is expensive but we liked it very much, the nature will provide with lots of picture opportunites.
